El profesor Prado Brabata imparte la clase biling眉e espa帽ol/ingl茅s JOUR61 Redacci贸n de noticias para medios impresos, radio, televisi贸n y en l铆nea, cuyo objetivo primario es la formaci贸n de alumnos que tienen inter茅s en redactar noticias en espa帽ol como apoyo a la gran comunidad de habla castellana en el 脕rea de la Bah铆a, y a trav茅s del internet, de los sucesos y necesidades de este grupo socioecon贸mico y de gran riqueza cultural.
Sin embargo, el redactar en castellano/espa帽ol, no es un requisito obligatorio ya que el curso est谩 dise帽ado para cubrir los temas que afectan a la comunidad latina/x y otras comunidades cuyo primer lenguaje no es el ingl茅s.
A lo largo del curso, se hace 茅nfasis en temas que van desde la vivienda, salud mental, educaci贸n y tradiciones ancestrales de las diferentes culturas que conviven en San Jos茅 y el 脕rea de la Bah铆a. Desde esta perspectiva se pretende que los estudiantes tengan una visi贸n m谩s amplia sobre los temas que les afectan, sus aportes a la sociedad estadounidense y un mejor entendimiento de la sociedad en que vivimos.
Jorge ha trabajado tanto en M茅xico como en EE.UU., en medios impresos, en radio y televisi贸n como reportero, columnista, conductor de programas culturales e infantiles, as铆 como lector de noticias y productor. Ha sido premiado por la Asociaci贸n Nacional Hispana de Periodistas (National Association of Hispanic Journalists), as铆 como del Consulado Mexicano en San Jos茅 por sus aportaciones a la comunidad mexicana en el 脕rea de la Bah铆a de San Francisco.
Sus intereses fuera del aula son variados, desde cocinar, la m煤sica, dibujar, la lectura y escribir, as铆 como estudiar el espa帽ol y sus diferentes formas de uso en Latino Am茅rica y Espa帽a, y aprender idiomas; en la actualidad, adem谩s de espa帽ol e ingl茅s habla en forma fluida el portugu茅s y est谩 re-aprendiendo franc茅s.
Tiene previsto para este a帽o que una serie de cuentos fant谩sticos de su autor铆a sean publicados en una antolog铆a de autores latinoamericanos en ese g茅nero y est谩 trabajando en la publicaci贸n de cuentos cortos y en la investigaci贸n para escribir dos novelas: una de g茅nero hist贸rico y otra de g茅nero de realismo m谩gico, ambas en espa帽ol, con planes a futuro de traducirlas al ingl茅s, portugu茅s y franc茅s.
Bio (English Version)
Professor Jorge M. Prado Brabata teaches the bilingual Spanish/English class JOUR61: Writing news for print media, radio, television and online. The primary objective is to educate students who are interested in writing news in Spanish, supporting our large Spanish-speaking community, locally in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as globally online.
However, writing in Spanish is not a mandatory requirement, as the course is designed to cover events and issues that not only affect our culturally rich and diverse Latina/o/x community, but also our many other communities whose first language is not English.
Throughout the course, the emphasis is on topics ranging from housing, mental health, education, and ancient traditions of the diverse cultures that enrich San Jos茅 and the Bay Area. From this perspective, the intention of the course is for students to have a broader perspective on the factors that affect these groups, to learn about their contributions to American society, and to gain a better understanding of the culturally diverse society in which we live.
Jorge has worked both in Mexico and in the U.S. on print media, radio and television as a reporter and columnist, host of cultural and children's programs, newscaster and producer. He has received awards from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and from the Mexican Consulate in San Jos茅 for his contributions to the Mexican community in the Bay Area.
His interests outside the classroom are diverse, from cooking, music, drawing, reading and creative writing, to studying the different uses of the Spanish language in Latin America and in Spain, and learning other languages. 鈥嬧�� Currently, in addition to Spanish and English, he speaks Portuguese fluently and is relearning French.
He is writing a series of short stories in the genre of fantasy, which will soon be published in an anthology of Latin American authors. He is also currently working on publishing his other short stories and researching for two novels, one in the genre of historical fiction, and the other in magical realism, both currently in Spanish, and with plans to translate them into English, Portuguese and French in the near future.
