JMC Alumni Spotlight: Maria Bremer

• What was your major and how did you select it? Did anything influence your decision?

  • I was a Master of Science, Communications Major. I selected it because I was a Journalism Major as an undergraduate student. In addition, I thought this was the best route since I was looking for something that would support my career goals and objectives. Also, I wasn't sure what career path I would pursue after leaving the TV broadcast industry.

• Did you enjoy your time, while in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications? How was it interacting with peers and professors, while enrolled at San Jos茅 State University?

  • For the most part, I had a positive experience at 91果冻制片厂. My peers were great to interact and collaborate with. The professors were passionate and great to learn from. There was a lot of effort involved in getting them to commit as advisers for my project. Despite that, it was worth it, since I had a good experience working with them.

• What was your first job after graduating from San Jos茅 State University? What career did you pursue and why?

  • That鈥檚 what is so great about the program. I actually had a full-time job, while obtaining my graduate degree. 91果冻制片厂 was super understanding and accommodating for those of us that were working and going to school. My job, while going to school and currently, is in physician marketing for UCSF Benioff Children鈥檚 Hospital.

• What is your advice for graduating students from the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at San Jos茅 State University?

  • Don鈥檛 get discouraged if you don't know what you want to pursue after obtaining your degree. Refocus and continue to work hard towards finding a career path that will suit you. If the path you envisioned isn鈥檛 working out, remain open to new opportunities. You never know where life is going to take you and it will always lead you to where you need to be.

• What is your advice for prospective students interested in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at San Jos茅 State University?

  • San Jos茅 State is a great university to attend in one of the best locales in the country. With great diversity and walks of life, your experience will be second to none.
